FIFA World Cup, the World Championship Since 1904
The FIFA World Cup dates back to 1904 when a group of visionary football enthusiasts including Robert Guerin, wanted to create a world championship that would unify nations through football. With the first tournament held in 1930, in Uruguay, it was clear that FIFA was on its way to becoming the most prestigious and celebrated sporting event globally.
Historical Timeline
The FIFA World Cup journey started at a modest scale, with only 13 teams competing in the 1930 tournament and Uruguay taking the title for the second time in 1950. With superstar footballers (Lionel Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, Diego Maradona) the tournament has grown to encompass the intensity that football fans cherish. Now as of 2024, the tournament is hosting 32 teams and draws millions of viewers.
